About SoriArchive
SoriArchive is a student-led digital initiative dedicated to documenting, preserving, and revitalizing Korea’s disappearing oral traditions—specifically traditional labor songs (노동요) and the regional dialects embedded within them.
Korea holds a vast and diverse body of oral heritage shaped by agriculture, fishing, craftsmanship, and communal labor. Yet much of this living history remains fragmented across academic papers, offline archives, or unrecorded community memory. As aging populations grow and intergenerational transmission weakens, many labor songs and dialectal expressions face extinction within one to two generations.
SoriArchive exists to address this urgent gap—before these voices fade.
What We Do
We build a centralized, bilingual digital archive that transforms scattered cultural data into an accessible, research-ready, and youth-engaging public resource. Through careful documentation and digital storytelling, we ensure that oral traditions are not only preserved, but understood, studied, and shared.
Our platform brings together:
- Audio recordings of traditional labor songs
- Dialect annotations and linguistic explanations
- Historical and cultural context for each tradition
SoriArchive combines cultural preservation with modern digital infrastructure. We work at the intersection of humanities research, technology, and youth participation to:
- Digitize oral traditions in a structured, searchable format
- Bridge academic research and public accessibility
- Engage younger generations through intuitive design and storytelling
- Support educators, researchers, and cultural organizations with reliable data
Our Mission
We believe oral traditions are not relics of the past—they are living records of identity, resilience, and community knowledge. By preserving labor songs and dialects in a format that speaks to today’s generation, SoriArchive aims to:
- Prevent the permanent loss of intangible cultural heritage
- Reconnect youth with regional and linguistic diversity
- Create a sustainable model for digital cultural preservation
Our Team

Choisung James Park
SoriArchive was designed and implemented by Choisung, who recognized the structural disconnect between Korea’s rich oral heritage and its accessibility to younger generations. This initiative reflects a commitment to cultural continuity, linguistic diversity, and the belief that preservation must evolve with technology.
As the archive continues to grow, SoriArchive seeks to expand its regional coverage, deepen linguistic analysis, and collaborate with communities, scholars, and institutions. Our goal is simple but urgent: to ensure that Korea’s voices of labor, place, and memory are not lost to time.
